Project Fatass: Day 0

Well, I guess it's about time. (Sorry about the title, Mom.)

I've been steadily getting fatter since sometime around high school, and I think I've finally had enough. I have a new year's resolution to drop 40 pounds. That's right, 4-0, forty, two stone, a little over three dozen.

Tough, you say? You bet it's going to be tough. Especially when I've tried it a few times and failed miserably. But I think the problem was I didn't have enough people to hold me accountable. So I'm calling on you, friends, family members, people who found my blog because of the ringtone post, to bug me about this. I think if I feel like I have an audience, I have a better chance of succeeding.

I'm tipping the scales at 225 right now, so my goal weight is 185. Of course, I'm so fat that I don't really even know how accurate my target is, so that might change. I think the secret is going to be this relatively new fad diet called "stop eating so many calories all the time." I haven't finished reading the book on it yet, but I think I get the idea.

Also, I've decided to start running. And to give myself motivation on that one, you heard it here first: I'm going to run the Chuy's 5k in May. Pretty lofty, huh? Well, my friend Mat is running the Austin Marathon this year, so if he can run 26 miles, I think I can run 3.

I'm calling this "Day 0" because I went for my first run tonight. I did a mile around our apartment complex, and it went about as well as could be expected--I ran about half and walked about half. But I think if I keep at it, I'll be running 5k's in no time. Plus, I can kind of see why people get addicted to running. There's definitely an adrenaline rush in there.

So stay tuned, everyone, as I push on toward humiliating failure or slim, rock-hard sexiness. How will it end? Place your bets in the comments.
