We didn't.

Man, did we tear up some stuff. Click through to see the sordid details.

We rented this beast and started about 11:00 this morning. It can tear up some serious yard.

It took a solid 6 hours to tear through all 3500-ish square feet. It gets especially tricky when your yard is mostly rocks in certain places. Dad and I traded off between fighting with the tiller and pulling weeds and grass out of the flower beds.

Here was our unpleasant surprise of the day: Apparently the Time Warner Cable guy installed the cable to our house by laying it gently on the ground and letting the grass grow over it. I know digging holes can be hard work, but I thought that's how you're supposed to install cabling. As a result, our cable TV cable looked like this in about 12 places:

The crisis was averted with a quick trip to Fry's for $10 worth of supplies, though. A second round with the tiller to break up the big clumps of dirt and a bit of cable repair, and we were done for the day.

On the agenda for tomorrow: Getting some landscaping stones to outline the flower bed, planting the grass and fertilizing, and possibly mulching the flower beds. Also, the Round Rock Express...

Great job (well, except for the cable part, of course) and great pictures!! Looks like it was a pretty day, and the weather is cooperating with your plans. Glad y'all are finishing off todaywith the Round Rock Express, kind of a reward for your hard work. Bet it was Bob's suggestion! :)
